Plymouth Abounds with Arts, Entertainment and Recreation There is never a shortage of activities happening in the Plymouth area. The community offers multiple options to enjoy arts and entertainment. There also are many recreational opportunities available and fantastic parks for friends and family to enjoy. Arts and Entertainment Gallery Shopping and Antiques: Art galleries and antique shops range from small trendy Festivals: Plymouth is home to some of southeast Michigan’s best festivals. In January is the International Ice Spectacular, in May is the Green Festival, in July is the Arts Festival and in September is the Fall Festival. Penn Theatre: Located in the heart of downtown Plymouth, the historic 1941 Penn Theater is a classic single-screen cinema experience featuring current second run movies, independent films, classic movies and live performances. Movies at the Penn run on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. The Theater is managed by the Friends of Penn, a non-profit organization with the purpose of preserving the theatre. Plymouth Historical Museum: The 26,000 square foot museum features a 19th Century Victorian recreation of Main Street and a large Lincoln collection housed in a separate room off of Main Street. There is also a Timeline of Plymouth History featuring displays on
the Daisy Air Rifle Factory (Red Rider), Alter Motor Car, World War II, a 50’s soda shop and much more. The museum also runs special exhibits that bring a new flavor to the museum three times a year. For more information on the Historical Museum visit www.plymouthhistory.org. Farmers Market: Every Saturday May –mid-October the Plymouth Farmers Market is open at the Gathering in Downtown Plymouth. Fresh produce, arts and crafts and other items are available from 7:30-12:00 on Saturday mornings. Concerts in the Park: The tradition in Plymouth is to come downtown to Kellogg Park on Friday nights in the summer to enjoy concerts by some of Metro Detroit’s best musicians. Thousands of people attend these concerts that range from Rock-n-Roll to Jazz. There are also community band concerts on Thursday nights and children’s concerts on Wednesdays at noon. For concert schedules go to www.downtownplymouth.org. Plymouth Community Arts Council: Joanne Winkleman Hulce Center for the Arts serves as the home of the Plymouth Community Arts Council (PCAC). The facility is home to art classes, a theater program, concerts, workshops, artist’s studio space and showcases special exhibits throughout the year. Additionally, the PCAC works closely with the public schools to provide enrichment programs for students. To learn more about the Arts Council go to www.plymoutharts.com. Plymouth Symphony Orchestra: The award winning professional orchestra performs music ranging from classical to the pops under the artful eye of long-time Conductor and Music Director Nan Washburn. To see the concert schedule go to www.plymouthsymphony.org. Plymouth District Library: With over 185,000 items and 22,400 cardholders the library is a hub of activity in the community. For more information, please go to www.plymouthlibrary.org. Theater: While there are major theater productions in Detroit, Plymouth has its own local theater company, Barefoot Productions. Parks: Plymouth Township Park located at McClumpha and Ann Arbor Trail sits on eighty acres featuring 4 baseball diamonds, playgrounds, walking paths, a fishing pond and sledding hills. The park also features a “Sprayscape” to create wonderful wet adventures

Plymouth Whalers Hockey: The OHL’s Plymouth Whalers play at the Compuware arena on Beck Road. The Whalers are a top minor league franchise that is the training ground for future NHL players. To see the Whalers schedule go to 
for small children. The area also has many other community parks and sports fields throughout the community. Also, running through Plymouth Township is Hines Park that is operated by Wayne County. The park is 15 miles long spanning across many communities in western Wayne County. The park has a river running through it and is full of opportunities for boating, fishing, picnics, hiking, biking and many other great activities.
