The former Pfizer, Inc. laboratory is becoming the Michigan Life Science and Innovation Center. The 57,000-square-foot building will offer office space and laboratory facilities as an incubator for new life science companies. The aim of the center is to connect well-funded, experienced entrepreneurs with business accelerator organizations and start-up companies. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Ann Arbor Spark and the Greater Wayne County Economic Development Corporation are partners in starting and running the new facility.
There already are several tenants who have committed to occupy space in the new facility. Ongoing operations will be funded by public, private and foundation support.
New jobs coming to Plymouth Township
(Posted August 25)
Governor Jennifer Granholm announced two companies expanding operations in Plymouth Township as a result of assistance provided by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
Danotek Motion Technologies plans to expand their company and relocate to Plymouth Township. The new facility will accommodate the manufacturing of up to three-megawatt variable speed generators with wind turbines. Their new venture will create 141 new jobs and another 212 jobs indirectly. Danotek chose this site over a competing location in Indiana and worked with the Michigan Economic Development department to receive $2.5 million in state tax credits over the next 10 years.
Aisin Group is considering expanding their facility in the Township, provided they receive approval from their parent company. To entice the expansion, the State has already granted the company $1.3 million in tax credits for seven years. This expansion would result in 81 new jobs at the company and potentially an additional 220 jobs. Aisin is the world’s 6th largest automotive supplier.
